Turkey’s Energy Future Discussed at ENSİA Special Session

During the WENERGY – Clean Energy Technologies Fair, a special session organized by ENSİA brought together key figures from the renewable energy sector under the main theme “How Will We Turn Green?”. The session was moderated by ENSİA Secretary General Hazal Coşkun and featured insights from Ömer Koç, Board Member of ENSİA and Chairman of Oz Energy; Özgür Soysal, ENSİA Board Member and CFO of TPI Composites EMEA; and Onur Günduru, ENSİA Board Member and CEO of Onur Enerji.

Speaking during the panel, Ömer Koç emphasized that while Turkey has achieved significant momentum in solar panel manufacturing, this production capacity is not yet effectively leveraged in international markets. He highlighted that Turkish producers face major challenges in the European market, especially related to price competition, trade policies, and tax regulations.

“We need to enhance our competitiveness not just through price, but through quality, engineering excellence, and service. It’s also vital to focus on R&D and design. Turkey’s strength in steel and aluminum processing must be supported with innovation and regional presence to truly compete in Europe,” said Koç.

Özgür Soysal drew attention to the fact that wind energy remains a labor-intensive industry, and rising labor costs and inflation are undermining Turkey’s competitiveness.

“Turkey has never been as low-cost as China or India, but it compensated with quality and problem-solving capability. Today, this advantage is fading. Offshore wind is the next frontier, and Çandarlı Port presents a major opportunity. We expect strong, investment-driven action from public authorities,” he added.

Onur Günduru stressed that the real priority should be energy efficiency, not only installing renewable systems.

“Our regulations are not far from international standards. But our biggest barrier is financing. Before rushing into renewable energy investments, we must first implement systems that reduce energy waste. This leads to more efficient operations without the need for heavy spending,” he noted.
